Spiritual Tools
At HeartSprings we believe that your spiritual health is as important as your physical or psychological health.  That may mean encouraging you to use the tools that you already know but may have forgotten such as praying the rosary, centering prayer, lexio devina (meditating on scriptures) or prayers of the church.  If we don't know different tools for your particular faith we will encourage you to talk with your pastor, priest, rabbi, or Imam or speak with our chaplain about ways to pray or meditate that would feel right to you.

We can also teach you religion neutral tools for meditation such as mindfulness, or heart meditation which help you achieve a quiet state of mind so that you can "hear that still small voice" of God calling.  Or, if you read our previous page on the expressive arts you will read how crafting can be meditative and allow God's spirit to quiet and offer inspiration.  Or, taking a meditative walk outside reflecting on nature or walking the labyrinth can all be ways to enter into God's presence.

Labyrinth Walking
Labyrinths have been in existence for thousands of years.  This particular labyrinth is called the Chartes cathedral  labyrinth because this pattern lays in the floor of a cathedral in Chartes, France using sacred geometry. Christian labyrinths were used as a spiritual journey and still can be used in this way today.  Typically, one can enter the labyrinth and use it asking for forgiveness on the way into the center  (there is only one way into the labyrinth), pausing for prayer or meditation in the center, and then using gratitude on the way out of the center.

Other nontraditional uses are appropriate such as asking a question before entering the labyrinth, praying for others, etc.

HeartSprings uses the labyrinth in a nontraditional way with our Parkinson's group.  Why?  Because the labyrinth with its unique design requires the walker to move back and forth inside the labyrinth which crosses back and forth (looks a lot like the brain doesn't it?).  So, with this pattern of movement back and forth it stimulates both sides of the brain making it an excellent exercise for someone living with a neurological condition such as multiple sclerosis, parkinson's disease, alzheimer's, stroke, autism, etc.  Our Parkinson's exercise group uses it from 10-11am)

HeartSprings has the labyrinth set up on the second Tuesday of the month from 8:00am to 6:30pm.   This is a free activity for the community.  This is a personal guided walk.  Enjoy!!

We will also have Sacred Dance on the Labyrinth from 6:30-7:30pm the same day!

Dates include:
[Oct. 11, Nov. 8, Dec. 13, Jan. 10, Feb. 14, March 13, April 10, May 8]
